Well, I love these books, but, My volumn 8 was printed upside down. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem. I can't imagine how this got by the publisher.Got my replacement set today and they were perfect

This is the entire collection of Don Rosa Vol 7 and 8 (total of 10 volumes). Don Rosa took off where Carl Barks left off, but creating even greater content! Don Rosa's work is amazing it's sad this he never did well in the American market. These comics/stories are great for all ages and I highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys comics or has children that do. High quality Hardback with good quality spine. When I get a chance I will try to post some pictures.

If I live long enough I intend to buy every issue of Scrooge ever created by Barks and Rosa. My childhood adventures are in these comics. They're still fun in my old age.

Excellent set. Great collection of duck stories. More importantly Amazon shipping has finally got its act together. The box was not flimsy and thin and the books inside were immaculate. Have had repeated issues with damaged books delivered time and again. Amazon, please continue this quality of packaging for these books, they are easily damaged if a sturdy box is not in place.

I love how Don Rosa continued the amazing world of Barks and Disney Ducks and THANK YOU Fantagraphics for publishing this series!

This book is a tremendous disappointment. It is written at the level of a seventh-grade book report. Repetitive and boring. Wish I had my money back.

Though not my usual field of interest, I nevertheless found this book full of interesting information on a part of the world I honestly know almost nothing about. Theres a lot of information and I read it several times finding it easy to read.

So much information is given in the book that you come away having learned so much. There was so much I didn't know before I read it. This series of books captivates and holds your attention as you wander through the ancient world of Mesopotamia. It even cleared up for me the meaning of a word that can be redefined from a show seen on a television series today. This series of books is definitely worth reading.

Where it all began the cradle of civilization. From modern day Iraq where the Garden of Eden was located. Everything sprang from Mesopotamia & itâ€™s effects are still being felt & seen toaayv. Excellent information contained in these books to get a great overview of this area so rich in history !

This set goes into the area that is now what is considered the Middle east. This area has a lot of history to which this set goes into. A recommended read.

This is an excellent book for those beginning or furthering their practice of Medieval Longsword. I've been practicing HEMA Longsword for a year as of the writing of this review, I refer back to this book frequently for insight on techniques and for drills and material for new students. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is beginning or wants to further their practice of longsword. Guy Windsor is a great writer and presents the material in the order that someone just starting can follow and be successful. It covers conditioning and stretching, the basics of footwork, strikes and parries, then goes into more situations and techniques that build off of the basics. Guy is intimately familiar with the writings of Fiore Dei Liberi and his interpretation of Fiore's work is the most complete and accurate that I've encountered. I recommended this book for anyone that is learning on their own, anyone who already belongs to a club, instructors and new students alike. Great material from a great source!

In the second volume of "Mastering the Art of Arms", Guy Windsor provides an excellent introductory on the medieval longsword for the Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) enthusiast. This book focuses on basic longsword tactics and techniques of the fencing master Fiore dei Liberi from "Il Fior di Battaglia" (the Flower of Battle), an early 14th century Italian fencing treatise.Windsor has an objective writing style that is also fun to read and his explanations are easy to follow. Unfortunately, the original 15th-century artwork of fencing plays was not reproduced; however, Windsor illustrates fencing plays with step-by-step photographs captioned by detailed descriptions. He provides sound interpretations of Fiore's fencing plays and includes a solid set of exercises and drills rooted in the Italian master's style. It would have been nice if Windsor waited and combined the Fiore dagger plays with this volume, providing a much more comprehensive edition centering around the Italian tradition. Regardless, this book is a great introductory guide for any HEMA enthusiast seeking to understand Italian longsword basics!

Excellent material from a true practitioner and scholar. Great manual for beginners and old handsalike. Would have given five stars if it wasn't black and white. This and the size of the images made some of the sequences difficult to follow. I would also like to know how much different this is from his two editions of Swordsmans Companion.

Guy has a methodical approach to Fiore's system that is unique in it's approach to fundamentals. Structure, positioning, and footwork are discussed in great deal as they are the foundation of the arts. What's better is there is no physical skill mentioned in the book that Guy does not give some sort of exercise for, which means that as a training manual there is no equal to the Mastering the Art of Arms series. There is a growing number of secondary interpretations of Fiore's work out there but none stand out so much as Guy's in clarity, accessibility, and simplicity. As someone without access to a great deal of HEMA training in my area I can say that before I discovered the Mastering the Art of Arms series and Guy's work generally I was floundering a bit, but Guy has given me and my study group a curriculum with all the nuts and bolts exposed and highlighted, and for that I am infinitely grateful.

This is my first reading and I was very pleased. However, I am also unclear on a number of points, particularly in the section that discusses the bind. The wiki videos were helpful, but in some cases a closer look at the action in the video is needed to see what actions are being applied. This is still a very helpful book. Hopefully my second reading will clarify my confusion.I. highly recommend this book.

This is what broke me into the world of HEMA, and is an all around great book. You will not become a swordmaster after reading (any book), but Guy does a wonderful job easing your into the mindset necessary to understand how actual sword fighting works.A note for us U.S. folks: Guy and his school are based in Europe, so some of his gear recommendations are not as easily recommended to someone on this side of the world.

This book presently has half a dozen bookmarks in it. Very helpful if you're starting down the path of Historical European combat. Clearly written, well organized and definitely my best assistant when it comes to understanding the basics of sword combat laid out in Il Fior di Battaglia

Over 10 years after publication, Mann's "Third Scenario" is looking like reality today. China's hegemonic, Leninist party rule is strong as ever, the crush of any dissent as fierce, and any hope for democracy or human rights is absent. America's passion for democracy and human rights has been supplanted by a lust for profit, and China's strategic vision has enabled them to play decades of American leaders like a violin.Only 4 stars, though, because -- besides being dated (his predictions about post-2008 Olympics were quite accurate!), it's more a Readers Digest version of history and events. The 4 stars are earned for simply being one of the few to acknowledge and report on this tragedy.

I have read over a dozen books on China recently, and Mann goes into detail on one important aspect that no one else mentions: how our own government officials are being bought out and corrupted by China. He names names and dollar figures on the many American political leaders who have left office and gone directly onto the payroll of China as 'consultants' paid to use their US govt contacts to made introductions. No wonder our government is unwilling to take action re China's hold on our Treasury Bills and economy as a strategic threat or do something about all their predatory economic practices. For example, their economic miracle is based on undercutting the prices of their competition - but China has falsely set their currency exchange rate below actual market values. We complain and do nothing. Why? Could it be because every China expert in the State department retires and becomes a consultant in the pay of China? Some famous names who now work for China as 'consultants' - Kissinger, Madeleine Albright, Clinton's national security advisor Sandy Berger, William Cohen (Clinton's defense secretary), Republican Carla Hills (the US Trade Rep), REpublican Brent Snowcroft (national security advisor to Bush senior).Other than this very interesting insight, I found Mann is a lazy researcher and this books largely reads like a padded magazine article. He tends to make assertions without going into the facts in enough detail to make them persuasive -even when he is correct. For example, he mentions China's harmful role in international politics, but doesn't give the actual stories - that they are the suppliers of missile technology to Iran for example, and are aggressively pursuing oil stakes in the Middle East by arming every despotic regime that more responsible nations are shunning.If the thesis of China becoming neither democractic nor falling apart interests you, there is a highly intelligent in-depth analysis called China's Trapped Transition. The Limits of Developmental Autocracy.

The middle-class angst over globalization (which is increasingly percieved to be a losing proposition) that politicians like Senator Jim Webb are riding into office will become a tidal wave if Mann's argument that the Chinese economy could thrive while the authoritarian political system remains largely the same bears out over time. Currently, the American public is not invited to ponder this possibility because between the doom and gloom prophets of Chinese empire or impending collapse and the utopian dreams of businessmen and politicians, no middle ground or "Third Option" can see the light of the day.Mann manages to sketch out his thesis but fails to explore further, offering only limited detail and leading the average reader to conclusions that need to be debated and studied. Further, in describing the political ploys utilized by the utopian believers of a "just around the corner" Chinese democracy, he performs a great service but fails to follow through by offering much in the range of alternatives to bring the truth to the light of day.In the end, an intriguing argument that awaits a better book. Best to find used or just read it in the library on a rainy day.

The observations made in this 2007 book are even more relevant in today's China. By all appearances, China is in fact not moving towards democracy, even as its economy has advanced and its wealth greatly increased. I particularly appreciate the point that the growing urban middle class is not receptive to democracy because they are simply outnumbered by the huge ranks of rural poor, and would stand to lose their privileges in any nationwide free elections. Therefore the Starbucks-sipping urban elite, far from demanding political reform, are becoming a new base of support for the regime. I've lived in China 3+ years and find most of Mann's points to be spot on - highly recommended.

The premise of this rather long essay has been presented before. However, the author does a good job in illustrating the influence of small interest groups on the policy of the United States. Perhaps low cost goods from China have increased the standard of living of US citizens. In the short term this may be true; however, in the longterm it is unlikely. Short term profit interests dictate China policy. Middle Class America is hollowed out. Folks need to consider spending a bit more but consuming a bit less and have that money stay within the local ecomony. I only need three pairs of jeans and not 8 if it keeps my neighbor's children in school and healthy.China will not modify its behavior without the outside pressure of the US consumer. The Japanese have a term for it: gaihatsu. It worked. Toyota now manufactures a large number of the cars it sells in the United States. Same principles should apply to China.I personally buy as few Chinese manufactured products as possible (this is not easy); but at least I try.

A must-read for anybody who has an interest in international affairs, especially the bilateral relationship between the United States and China. If you've ever wondered why US politicians seem to turn a blind eye to the human rights abuses in China, this short book is a great exploration of why, and all of the underlying logic by which they operate their agenda of rights-blindness.

My husband grew up playing baseball and pitched every so often. After Pony baseball he hung up his players cleats and picked up his coaches' whistle, but he has played on occasional adult leagues. We now have a 11 year old and as my husband was reading through this book, he realized that many of the things taught to him as a player were actually incorrect. This book gives new perspective on proper mechanics and should be read by anyone wanting to be a better pitcher and keep their arm healthy as well as parents and coaches to help protect younger arms. My husband may not be as flexible as was in Pony, but with this book my husband and son are throwing better with refined mechanics which this book promotes.

From page 47 to the end, this book is great. Chapter's 1-7 need plenty of help.First, if your going to talk about momentum (linear and angular) and kinetic energy, then explain what they are and how they relate. The same goes for terms like adduction and abduction. In that way, when a glove hand gets pulled into the finish position under the armpit or wherever, we can talk about the effect of that on angular acceleration; which leads to a discussion of torque and onward to angular velocity and ball speed.Second: get rid of quaint terms like foot/arch complex unless you explain what that means and why you have to say that instead of just 'arch'.Third, if your going to use stick figures from 2D and 3D imagery and talk about separation angles, then it would be nice if you defined the angles. For instance, hip shoulder separation angle (40-60 degrees) is stated but not defined. My question was, angle relative to what? A vertical line running through the front hip node or what? This book is not an in-house memo and should not be written as such.Fourth: Graphs found in the figures are completely inadequate. Figures 3-3, 4-5, and 6-2 are good examples of decent data inadequately displayed. What's the point of distinguishing right and left arms on a horizontal adduction graph when the lines describing those two arms look identical? The lines in 6-2 are, I guess, supposed to represent the glove and glove elbow but the lines are identical and unlabeled. Figure 4-5 is the worst offender. There are supposed to be three lines showing angular velocity change with time (which should have been tied to a discussion of torque but no dice. One line is barely visible and the other lines are, again, indistinguishable. Even my students know that color displays converted to black and white require some extra thought if the display is going to be useful.Do right by your data, always. This data deserves better.

I am not as strong, flexible, or conditioned as I was in high school or college, but I am now throwing almost as hard as I was then and with no elbow or shoulder pain.

This book is as comprehensive as it is valuable, meaning it is absolutely full of qualified information. One of the weaknesses of the book is in the authors' ability to convey the physics behind the mechanics of pitching. While it is evident they have conducted considerable studies on the subject, it can be difficult to replicate their explanations on the mound even when reviewing the diagrams provided. Another surprising omission is the lack of attention to discussing grips; which play a prominent role in pitching.The information provided should be essential for anyone seeking to improve his or her performance; whether beginning as a pitcher of refining one's abilities after years of play. The book will prove somewhat complicated to use for those without any pitching experience; however, this should not detract from the wisdom provided, as it should be implemented from the start of any career if possible. I recommend this book to all baseball players interested in pitching but advise supplementing it with more basic material in order to be able to fully absorb the information.

Tom House is an excellent instructor and I highly recommend his books for baseball players, not just pitchers, of all levels.

Great book for teaching the fundamentals and drills of successful pitching. I saw Tom House speak at a baseball seminar and he's by far the best pitching instructor on the planet. He uses observational science of the best pitchers in the major leagues and breaks down what they do and has them written down in this book. He provides a very detailed sequence of what pitchers should do and gives a variety of drills to simulate that sequence. He believes in improving each pitcher's style and not trying to start everyone from scratch to create pitching robots.

I learned some new stuff, even though I purchased it for my baseball-nut-grandson.

As close to a pitching bible as it gets. Phenomenal.

First ran across this book in mid-70's when God was working in me in ways my church taught nothing of - our desperate need to be broken and separated from our own sense of abilities independent of God. This book helped me understand that I was actually being favored by God, not punished or forsaken. This book should be required reading for any serious Christian who wishes to love God with all his heart, mind, soul and strength.

Loved Watchman's clarity in discussing the outer vs. inner man. That when we are "broken", the outer man (mind, will and emotion) cracks and we allow the Holy Spirit to work with our spirit in the inner self and communicate through to our mind, will and emotion. Drawing near to God in our quiet space facilitates this and we need it most when the world has been bombarding our soul through the senses outmost senses. After you read this, dive into Tozier's "Pursuit of God", and Dallas Willard's "Hearing God".

This is by far the hardest book to listen too. It is very thoughtful and it will challenge you in your walk in the Spirit of Christ

This is also one of my all time favorite books. This message is so needed today in our modern christian culture. It is the first time in my life, i have heard a message like this. In theory it sounds good, but when God starts to work on your outer man or bring Jesus Cross to you, it is not so easy. But it so needed, that we as Christians allow God to do His breaking work in us, so that His spirit can break through our hard shell and so doing touch a broken world. I have been in Christ for over forty-five years. This book was given to me by an Evangelist back in the late seventies. He said that it would radically transform my view on Jesus Christ; me being in Christ and Christ being in me. I have to admit that I read it more than once over a two year period. Everything I read in it rang true in me but I couldn't understand it. I prayed, agreed with the Truth as it was revealed in it's pages, but it was still only so much theory. SInce then, I have read everything I could find on brother Nee's writings, and have not been disappointed. He is among those saints through whom the Holy Spirit chooses to spread the sweet savor of our Lord Jesus Christ. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who has a thirst after Him like a deer pants after the brook! It may take you a while until the light breaks forth in your soul but the wait is worth it. I have only read the beginning of this book and it has changed my life and walk with the Lord forever. Learning to seek The Lord Jesus in Truth and Spirit, to Know Him in my inner man and to see his hand all around in my life for the purpose of my 'breaking' / purification and His Glory!

Such a wonderfully deep, introspective book. I had planned to read and pass on, but have bought a second copy for passing on. I'm keeping to read and re-read.

Before getting into my review, I want to say that I am super glad I did NOT read Tim Challies' 1-star review of this title until after I'd finished reading "Moving Mountains" cover to cover. Had I seen that review first, I would have thought twice about purchasing this book. That would have been a BIG mistake! Reading what Challies wrote caused me to wonder if he and I actually read the same book. It also gave me pause to wonder what his axe to grind with Eldredge might be.I am no John Eldredge groupie. There was a time when I followed and supported his ministry. But that was quite awhile ago now. So, I was surprised when Amazon recommended his latest book to me. I'm glad they did. The author's gift of words -- his voice -- shines through every page brilliantly!Eldredge makes it clear prayer is not a quickie wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am two minute sort of thing. He uses the word "intentionality" to relate this idea. The book is excellently balanced with supporting Bible passages and resources for further study. I found I'd already read a number of the books by other authors he recommends.He uses the phrase "there is a way things work" as an overall theme to connect the dots. I enjoyed this little creation to reveal that I was about to partake in one of those deep mysteries he'd uncovered. I sometimes need someone waving a caution flag that says "slow down... don't rush through this part."Another thing I like is Eldredge's use of his own experiences in prayer. He describes them and then provides the prayer words he uses. I find that immensely helpful, akin to standing on his shoulders, rather than having to flounder away on my own. Prayers he's developed are printed in full at the end of the book. I get the feeling he really does want his readers to delve into this prayer adventure.One thing I wish he had developed further was the idea of provision. One of the resources John offers is Dr. Ed Murphy's "The Handbook For Spiritual Warfare." It's one of those I mentioned earlier that I've read. Appendix B in the back of that book is a prayer that I think might be one of the inspirations to Eldrede's "Daily Prayer." There are several parts to it emphasizing God's provision which are only slightly implied in "Moving Mountains." I'd prefer he plumb the amazing provision of God deeper.John Eldredge has sold millions of copies of his bestseller, "Wild At Heart." This book is on that level and I hope he sells millions of "Moving Mountains," too. My recommendation is that you read the entire book cover to cover first. That way you'll have the 30,000 foot view... the big picture. Then go back and take it slowly, applying..... no, PRAYING.... what John Eldredge has revealed.As I said in the headline, based on what I've gleaned from this book, if I had been told I was terminally ill, I'd want John Eldredge praying for me. "Moving Mountains: Praying with Passion" holds my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!

I have read many of John Eldredge's book. They have challenged the way I see Christ, mostly for the better. I normally do not feel uncomfortable with his writing. I read all books with a Berean perspective. Some of the teachings within this book take steps into extra-biblical methodologies, or at best thinly connected scriptures, which I have a hard time connecting the relevance of. He skirts the edge of some teachings within charismatic circles, which he states and then almost contradicts himself so as to not to offend non-charismatics.On the positive side of things. John teaches that Jesus is not a distant God. He is an intimate and close friend that loves and cares for you. He encourages one to approach prayer in a conversational way. He clearly shows how God speaking directly to you is biblical and normative. He teaches you to pray expectantly, which all true believers have a right to do. I have grown deeper in my prayer life as a result of this book and his Beautiful Outlaw book.What I am finding difficult to reconcile scripturally: His Daily Prayer is formulaic and long-winded. This flies in the face of what Jesus taught in Matthew 6:7. Proverbs 10:19 might apply as well. It cannot be for God's benefit. His implication is that it is for you to center yourself. Maybe it is just me, but recitation of a long winded script doesn't focus me. It moves me away from Christ, not towards him. It also take a LONG time. If I was a theologian or in ministry, my day would allow time for the 15-20 minutes to go through the DAILY prayer. I just can't see where this is God honoring.This book takes you into the area of binding and loosing and to claiming authority. This is very controversial. There are very reputable theologians on both sides of this camp. Beware and research prayerfully on this. Satan likes you to either think he is not there or that he is behind every tree. Many who get into binding and loosing see him behind every tree. Jude 9 applies when dealing directly with Satan. If another archangel isn't going to tread into "binding" Satan, should we?Praying in tongues: I think John handles this very well. My personal experience in this area is that it doesn't occur through my will. There have been times when the Spirit has taken over me in prayer. Most times (and all times when I am publicly praying), it is in my everyday language. He just takes over my mouth. I have had a time or two when another language formed in my mouth. Never were they when I was praying before others. Of course the bible states that such times (praying in tongues before others) must have an interpretation. What John teaches in this respect does seem to be consistent with my experience, as if my opinion has any weight. But this is my chance to speak. Write your own review if you disagree. Again, this is an area of much controversy.In summary, I believe you need to read many of John's other books for this book to be helpful. No Christian author has it all correct. Test everything through scripture and in prayer. Also understand, just as John points out that Jesus never healed the same way each time, he also doesn't work with each person the same way. He's bigger than that. If you are looking for a formula on prayer, there isn't one.

This book is great and phenomenal. If your prayer life feels sort of dull read this book or get the audio book and listen to it. Ponder what he's saying. Go back into your Bible and look up the scripture references. Ask the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD who raised CHRIST JESUS from the dead to show you and teach you all things just as CHRIST promised he would and it will change your prayer life forever. It's not John's book that does that but it's a guide back into the TRUTH, the WAY and the LIFE who changes it.

It is not possible for me to reduce to words or overstate the significance of the message in "Moving Mountains." It has met me squarely in my brokenness, and forever altered my understanding of prayer.Like a superior sermon one experiences when you feel as if the pastor's teaching was directed specifically at you, nearly every chapter overflowed with what I need to learn and comprehend about prayer. And I have only now read it through once completely.Next move is to go back and begin even more serious study. This is a book, like the Bible from which most of it is adroitly woven, that will be dog eared, highlighted and referenced again and again. God had used John Eldridge mightily herein.

I am both reading and listening to this book and have done so several times, absorbing more each time. Shortly after I started reading this the first time, my husband entered the hospital for what ended up being almost a month and two surgeries. I literally searched through this book to find models of prayer for different situations and prayed through many of them....sometimes I was so tired or "brain scrambled" that I needed rhe words in front of me....God is indeed good and I praise God for John's obedience in writing this, (and the annointing that I see in his writing).

I read this with my co-workers at the school I am employed at. Rafe is a SUPERSTAR teacher and I would love to do half of what he has done. I don't know how he has time for his wife and kids with all of his time being spent with his students. I wonder how the students feel when they move on to the next teacher and its nothing like 5th grade with Rafe. I did get some great ideas to try out in the classroom, but I feel he is a bit too over the top for me.

I very much enjoyed this book. In a world where it feels like teachers are blaming everything on parents, and parents feel like teachers are not motivated/doing enough, Rafe's experience is refreshing and brings us back to the basics. I got many ideas for my 4 year-old upbringing. The most valued lesson: money isn't everything (it just has be to put on the right place), but quality time is. Highly recommended reading!

I absolutely love this book! Arrived in record time, in good packaging & in great condition. This book is a must read if you are just starting out or even if you have been teaching for years. There are so many ideas to use from this book in your own classroom, I have placed post it notes all throughout the book to reference it again when school starts!

I bought this because it was a required text in one of my classes. I'm an elementary education major. This book isn't the most interesting read but is so incredibly helpful for anyone looking to become a teacher or someone who is already in the classroom. It has a lot of great new ideas and teaching strategies as well as just tips and tricks for classroom management. I know this is one of the books that I will keep as a resource once I graduate and start teaching.

Read this half-heartedly after a disheartening school year at an urban school. It was awesome. There are definitely at least 3 things that I'm planning to implement in my classroom (the microeconomy, kohlberg's 6 levels, and movies).It felt great reading a book from a teacher who truly understands. I've been to my share of ivy league colleges and such, and despite how wonderful my professors may have been when they WERE in the profession, to hear from a guy who constantly sticks to it is the best.Especially as Common Core is rolling around the corner, Rafe has a lot of practical wisdom and understanding. I was thankful to have read this over the summer.

This book was not bad. It didn't wow me like I had hoped it would though. There was something a little too self-congratulatory about the narrators voice that didn't really hook me like it should have.

I bought this book and it showed up with the last 30 pages creased on the bottom and another split in the spine where the book was opened and pressed down open. There was also a big red dot of ink covering 1/4 of the bottom of the book. Disappointed that the book was obviously used. I would return it for new one except I need to start reading it this weekend. Bummer!

I read "hair's on fire" for a class I'm taking on my way to being a math teacher.Rafe concentrates on developing his students as human beings. All the subjects he teaches are geared towards developing character, and developing developing character allows a student to excel in all the subjects.I wonder if there is room to take a similar holistic approach in a high school math class?
