The story material makes this book an interesting read. I agree with other reviewers who note Reynolds's issues with women; this problem of his is also visible in a brief interview with the author that appears in Nick Broomfield's documentary, *The Selling of a Serial Killer.* One thing I think Reynolds is dead right about, however, is that prostitution was not Aileen's main "hustle" in selecting her victims. Her letters to childhood friend, Dawn Botkins (*Dear Dawn*) affirm that she only brought up the idea of a sexual transaction after first securing a ride under other pretenses. She claims, to Dawn, to have found this strategy less "embarrassing." So I see real insight, on Reynolds's part, in this area. He is clearly enamored with the policemen's bravado, and their saga, on the night of Aileen's capture, is more detailed than interesting. All in all, the book is worth reading; you can hear his enthrallment with the law enforcement guys, and you can hear his strange stance towards women throughout, but even so, his rendition of the crime, allowing for its biases, is still worth reading. If you have to choose only one account, however, go with Sue Russell's Lethal Intent.

This account is very difficult to read for the first chapter or two. The English is broken and uneducated, barely understandable. It's not until the Law Enforcement officers begin their findings that the book becomes tangible. Be that as it may, it is a story about a twisted, evil and manipulative killer, with no redeeming qualities. Her life ends in a much gentler, kinder manner than she bequeathed her victims.

Terrible, sorry to say so but it is. It's so boring I couldn't even finish it. And as a big serial killer buff that says something. Save your time and read Monster.

For the first two or three chapters I felt like I fell into a bowl of name/agency soup. Hardly a line went by that a name or two or agency was mentioned and then repeated over and over throughout the next few chapters. With so many killings and associated names/places/etc it became very confusing as to which killing or person was being describe. But eventually I started to figure out some of the details. Some of the runup to the killings was pure invention of the author particularly describing how the victim was thinking. I like crime books and I guess because this one was not exactly a mystery I was a bit disappointed in the writing. But I bought if as a result of BookBub showing me it was on Amazon sale for .99 cents on Kindle so who am I to complain.

The book starts terribly slow as if we’re reading police report after police report. Suddenly the story comes alive to the point you can’t put it down! I’d give it 5 stars if there was more concentration on those committing the murders, and far less on the detectives, sheriffs, etc. I’m glad I bought the book, and the price was right, however I feel those who are really into detective work will find it more interesting than I.

This book was especially good because the author is the journalist who linked all of the crimes together before the police did. Aileen Wornous was a sad but very damaged human being. The author did an excellent and fair job of telling Aileen's story

Very readable and logically presented recounting of this sad saga. Provides background showing she never really had a chance. Nicely done.

The author really explored this killer, her history and relationships, as well as the police activity to track her down; which was not easy as her murders spanned a number of jurisdictions. There were really no heroes; just regular people.
