Full of colorful, glossy photographs covering all of the series and movies, it really is a must have for any Star Trek fan. Some of the costumes show the original sketches, alongside interesting stories. As detailed as the book is covering all aspects of the ST universe (aliens included), I wish they had been more detailed on Starfleet insignia. For Example: They only show one TOS (The Original Series), uniform for Lt. Uhura. Season 3 was quite different from Seasons 1-2. And they left out her 'Mirror, Mirror' uniform, (but included Spock's and Kirk's). Still an excellent book, but 4 stars from me.

I am not a Star Trek fan. But I do enjoy costumes. My company manufactures fiber optic lighting. We just lit a Marilyn Monroe dress worth half a million. So I see a lot of costumes, both historic and Hollywood produced. I know something of costuming. And I have read a number of books on the subject, many dry, professorial and dull. This was fun. The authors made it a delightful trip with beautiful photographs, details about actual construction, comments by designers, review of materials used, discussions of problems and what has made costuming for a science fiction icon that spans decades such a challenge. I recommend clicking the buy button. Do it. You know you want to. I am surely glad I did. This is a book not to miss. It will be in my collection for decades beside all those academic tomes. My hat off to the authors for a great book even if the last costume which was J.J. Abrams favorite in his renewing of the series shows a zipper, a Star Trek costuming mistake. See what neat stuff you learn.

I had hoped to see them focus at least a little on the extras, who are always so beautifully and consistently dressed. I had also hoped to read about the driving influences for each species modes. But, this book mostly focused on TOS/the movies and didn't spend much time on TNG or DS9, and Enterprise and Voyager got barely any space at all, even though by then Star Trek had a huge costume budget then and the costumes were getting more interesting.I enjoyed this book and will keep it but I felt it lacked meaty substance that would have really made me understand the vision for each series.

Got my copy of "Star Trek Costumes" yesterday. What a treasure! It's a HUGE book, with gloriously beautiful images, beautifully printed, and worth every penny. I really enjoyed the explanations behind some of the costumes and uniform choices, tweaks, and interesting elements.I was particularly interested in the evolution of the Vulcan clothes, from the outfits used in Amok Time, to the massive group of Vulcans in "Search For Spock". Those were awesome costumes.They spent a lot of time on the original cast series, but kind of skimped on Enterprise, which was sad, because I would have liked to have seen more of the Vulcan clothing used in that series. Still, they did a two-page spread on the Vulcans in "First Contact" which were only on screen for a few seconds.The book is dedicated to Leonard Nimoy and Harve Bennett. If you're a Trekkie and costume lover, you'll love this book.

Still pondering how to phrase what I want to say. Okay, let's start with saying things - book says more by captions and paragraphs than via full pages of text, though there are both. In that mix it tells of the thoughts of the designers; some about their relationships to the film industry; some about the whys and werefores of how a design came to be or was changed; and some about being inventive and creative, sometimes on an exceedingy tight budget. Oh, and it has photos, too.

Awesome commentary, GORGEOUS pictures, references of outfits that are hard to find. My biggest complaint is that there were not enough images of Romulan clothing, and nearly nothing on Cardassians. There's a range of useful stuff in here--everything from pantone swatches for Bajoran uniforms to tiny glimpses of other things (Garak's clothing), but it really could be twice as thick as it currently is if they included detail for everything!

I bought this book as a gift for a friend. I can't really comment on the text but the archived photos of Star Trek costumes & uniforms pretty much covers the entire franchise from its beginnings in the mid 60's to the present. The images are full-color, very sharp in detail and show a great amount of detail. I would recommend this book to any serious Star Trek fan or anyone looking into a career in entertainment wardrobe design.

There were not quite as many pictures from the Original Series as I was hoping for. Probably because a lot of them didn't survive, but I was a bit disappointed by that. If you're looking for a fun, interesting overview of all of the series costumes, though, it's quite good.
