Here's a very nice work which has a lot of really great information for the budding sea shell collector. I think I found it one of the most useful books in giving a second view of a species after classifying them out with one of the more complete guides. The index is complete and although there isn't a real scale next to each picture, the fact of having group pictures helps the reader visualize the sizes. If you are a person who likes to thumb through a book in order to classify your shells, then this will work nicely for you. If you want more of an in depth description of the shell with habitat and other facts, then this will make a good supplement. In my writing of "Beachcomber Sea Shells of the Caribbean" I found the larger pictures to be helpful but without having key features noted, in many cases all you have is the size being a clear difference which really is not sufficient for proper classification.

A little outdated and poorly printed (it's possible that we just got a bad print.) Great info and helpful for identification, especially for the price. I bought this book along with the more expensive shell book from the Smithsonian. The Smithsonian book is much better, but this one helped me identify some things that I couldn't find in the other.

On a recent trip to Pensacola, Florida, we picked up a nice variety of beautiful seashells and this little book made it easy to identify each one. The book features color photographs of over 300 commonly found seashells from many beaches in the world. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase; it exceeded my expectations.

Good reference book for beginning shell collector.

This small book had a ton of pictures which is great but it had no accompanying descriptions. It only had a picture, the common and proper name, and where it can be found. This is only somewhat helpful. This book may be helpful if you already have a field guide but it doesn't have enough pictures so you could use this one to supplement. I would not recommend it if it is the only book you are getting and you want to accurately identify your shells. But if all you want is pictures then it is pretty good.

Great book

Plenty of pictures of shells and information. Great for someone who is into shells as a hobby or just someone who wants to learn more. I bought it for my 7 year old.

After shelling in the Carribbean sea we found that we needed a different shell book than the one we already had. This book was informative and better than my general shell guide book but we still found shells that were not listed in this book. The illustrations are a little dated but overall if you are shelling in these areas this book would be helpful.
