This book is a collection of the history and lives of some of the greatest generals in the faith over the last 2 centuries. From William Branham to Amee Semple McPherson, this book includes detailed accounts of what these amazing woman of God did right and what they did wrong. From personal victories to personal defeats and the highs and lows of ministry this book breaks things down in a way that encourage, challenge, and inspire anyway seeking to do great works for God.The major outlines of the book are to be available to the Holy Spirit and to stay in communion with Him and community. There are story upon story and life upon life of what God can do through people who live lives that are laid down before the Lord. However, I will say that it’s the tragedies that line the pages of this book that I feel are the most important. Family is one of the biggest points. Men like John G. Lake have done great works for God at the expense of their family, I don’t think that is Gods plane and this book talk about taking care of your family first. Community is an aspect of ministry people can’t look over. There is strength in being surrounded by amazing people that will challenge you and support you in your endeavors.Strengths:1.) I would say the books initial strength is the way that it’s written. It invites you into the story and lives of these people and keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s detailed and informative and in partnering with the Holy Spirit you can see how people rose and how you feel. Definitly learning from their mistakes.2.) I believe there is amazing impartation in this book. It’s inspirational yes, but more importantly than that it’s a book where the same mantles can be released to those who ask for it.Weaknesses:1.) It would be nice if it was in chronological order. Some aspects as far as dates weren’t and that would help. Also if people were in order chronologically as well that would help. It could be called, Gods Generals from 1880-1970 or whatever.2.) I think Liardon had tremendous access to the lives and artifacts of these amazing men and woman of God. If He had access to the journals and things it would be nice to have more specifics and even pictures of those journal entries. I think it would just be neat to see.

Review: This is a Must-Read Book for every evangelist who has heard God's call into this ministry so that they can learn how to overcome the pitfalls that seem so common to men of such gifting. It isnt easy to survive especially as they bring in thousands into God's Kingdom, and as they plunder hell to populate Heaven. What is not mentioned in this book is the high need for a team of Intercessors within the ministry itself to also pray for wisdom and protection upon the health of these evangelists. Roberts Liardon has not mentioned the presence of teams of Intercessors in the ministry work of the evangelists mentioned in rhe book. Their absence in great force has opened holes which allowed the infiltration of enemy attacks upon the evangelist, especially in the area of health.

This is the first book I have ever read that my heart races when I read it. It’s so spirit filled and exciting that I can’t read it fast enough. I look forward to getting home and opening it up and continuing my reading. This book makes me want everything God has for me on this earth.

Very interesting book on people who served God in spectacular ways. I had heard some of the names and knew something about some of them but nothing in this much detail. This is very worthwhile read for anyone interested in revivals and spiritually gifted men and women.

This is one of the most informative documentaries on these spiritual "movers & shakers!" that I have ever read. Roberts shares many documentive facts as well as his personal reflections about these cherished ministers. He is authentic in sharing their struggles but does so with much compassion & sensitivity. As I nearing completion of this book I'm deeply inspired not just by the great miracles they performed but also that God uses ordinary and available people to do great things for Him! This is a must read for any believer but especially those who are called to the ministry.

This is an extremely valuable an interesting book for those that wish to pursue God's call on their lives. First of all it demonstrates that many real miracles of healing were done by God's power and there were genuine revivals that swept thousands into God's kingdom in short periods of time. There are many lessons for those that want to be used by God and great inspiration for those that hope for greater possibilities. The lessons from the lives of these generals were so important that I wrote them down. 1) Stay in your calling. 2) Take care of your body. 3) Don't get proud. 4) Seek the Lord continually. Those are important lessons for any believer.

My husband wanted this book. I was happy to find it on Amazon and for a good price. I read a little of it before giving it to him for Christmas and didn't want to put it down. Roberts Liardon did a great job writing and making it so interesting to read you just want to keep reading. The way he writes makes it come alive to the reader and the information on each person is excellent. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book when I can get it away from hubby!

This book is great for anyone who wants to live an inspiring life for Christ. There are ten different christian "Generals" who made an impact on Christendom and their inspiring lives have made an impact on everyone I have given this book to. It is emboldening in living wholeheartedly as a christian soldier and encourages people to take their faith seriously. I have purchased maybe a dozen copies of this book to give to friends to help inspire them to live wholeheartedly for God in the great vision He has for their lives. The notes by the author are very insightful and he retains a tone of honor and respect even when describing and commenting on some failures the Generals experienced.I would recommend this book to anyone who aspires to be a pastor, missionary, bible teacher, church leader, or anyone who has felt the call to do something for God with this one life they have been given.
